Your best treatment for cystic acne involves a particular active ingredient known as Benzoyl peroxide. Benzoyl peroxide is often the primary ingredient in most acne creams or gels but you must start with a low dose as it can have a harsh effect on your skin and actually cause redness.
The trick to using a benzoyl peroxide based product is in knowing how to best use it for your skin in its current cystic acne condition.
A 2.5 percent benzoyl peroxide cream or gel may be your best treatment for cystic acne. That said if your face is generally sensitive consider applying the benzoyl peroxide only once a day for the first couple of weeks after which, you can gradually increase the frequency of your applications as your skin becomes tolerant of it.
Please note that if your skin becomes crusty it may indicate that you are allergic to benozyl peroxide. An allergic reaction is rare but if it does happen please discontinue its use and consult your doctor or dermatologist.
Your cystic acne will also benefit from a good over-the-counter facial cleanser. Any cleanser you use to treat your cystic acne should be gentle and not too drying. The last thing you want to do is strip your skin of all its oils.
Using regular soap is ill advised for anyone who has cystic acne.
Next on your best treatment for cystic acne agenda is a good facial moisturizer. Once you have a facial moisturizer you like you should use it daily to help counteract the reddening and drying effect of the benzoyl peroxide.
When selecting a facial moisturizer for use on cystic acne you want to make sure that it is not comedogenic and has moisturizing effects.
One of the best products I’ve discovered is Eucerin Skin Renewal as it helps prevent your skin from flaking. That said, you’ll want to make sure you have already been using your best treatment for cystic acne cream or gel for at least a couple of weeks as it contains lactic acid which has been known to sting skin when first used in conjunction with a benzoyl peroxide based product.
My stepson used AccuTane, but I hear it’s been pulled from the market. However, my wife got a sulfur water product from a chiropractor/ homeopathic doctor. It worked wonders for her. I can’t remember the name of it. It only took one bottle to cure her. You take a tablespoon a day or something like that.
There is no way to treat cystic acne without opening the pore; although it’s not a good idea to try to open them on your own. Cystic acne is one of the few kinds of acne that actually benefit from treatment with Accutane or Retin-A.
These potent chemical concentrates of vitamin A cause the skin to break open over the pore so it can finally heal. The problem is that these treatments can also cause severe inflammation of skin that is not affected by acne, and there are very serious health side effects associated with the use of these medications. For many sufferers of cystic acne, however, Accutane and Retin-A are almost miracle drugs.
Once cystic acne is under control, other natural treatments for acne can help keep it from ever coming back.
