Question by pravit: Should it bleed during dermaroller treatment for deep acne scars?
Some doctors said that there should be no bleeding during dermaroller treatment. However, some of the dermaroller devices designed to be used by physicians only, have 2-2.5 mm. in length needle, that can penetrate throghout the facial skin and should cause some bleeding. So, to treat deep acne scars by dermaroller, should there be any bleeding during the session ?

Best answer:

Answer by pelican
I don’t think you should bleed. Acne requires a multi-faceted approach. If you have acne clean your skin gently, ry not to touch your skin when your hands are not clean, and avoid the sun.

The three basics of acne treatment are to (1) unclog pores, (2) kill bacteria, and (3) minimize oil. Use mild exfoliating cleansers to unclog your pores. Use benzoyl peroxide to kill the bacteria. Get rid of oil on the surface of your skin by using a gentle toner. Generally drug store brands will do each of these things well. You don’t need to spend a fortune.

These are all good basic skin regimens that may help with the acne battle:

Cleanse twice daily with a 5% benzoyl peroxide wash. An alternative for those who are allergic to benzoyl peroxide is 2% salicylic acid.

Apply a gel or cream containing 5% benzoyl peroxide; an alternative is sulfur or resorcinol.

At night, apply a spot cream containing sulfur to the affected areas.

Use a light skin moisturizer and oil-free makeup.

If you try all these approaches and it still does not seem to work, it is time to consult your doctor. You may need a prescription medication approach to deal with your acne.

And read the information at these sites. You may find other ideas that will help you.

TCA acne scars treatment options usually involve skin peels that are designed to treat acne as well as the scars that are often left for acne sufferers when their face starts to clear up. TCA is just one of a few kinds of skin peels that many that suffer from acne have turned to over the years, but it is probably the most popular of them all. It gets better results than “minor” peels such as lactic or glycolic peels, and it is not as drastic an option as a phenol peel.

What can a TCA peel do for you

Why use a skin peel? Well, many people find that the treatment methods that they used for their acne simply do not translate well to the specific treatment of acne scars. That is why TCA skin peels are widely used – because they do a good job of greatly reducing the appearance of those troublesome marks that have been left by acne outbreaks over the years. The ability to treat acne scars while also removing acne itself, all with one type of treatment is also a very attractive aspect of a TCA skin peel.

TCA stands for “trichloroacetic acid.” The application of TCA in a skin peel is very safe, and can be used on a wide variety of acne scar conditions and skin types, which helps make it such a popular option. The substance will be applied as part of a cream, often with some sort of applicator.

What to expect from a TCA peel

It will not be left on for long, as it only takes between 10 and 20 minutes to work its magic. If your doctor opts to use TCA without mixing it with other substances in a cream, it will take even less time than that, with a deeper effect. Then, a neutralizer will be applied, and you may have sunburned-looking skin for a few days, before the peeling process begins, leaving you with vastly improved skin.

The improved look that you will get from TCA acne scars treatment will usually last up to a year. Often, you will find that the treatment does provide a permanent effect on acne scars, while the effects on acne outbreaks themselves are more temporary. Still, it is difficult to find a better way to treat acne and acne scars simultaneously than with a TCA skin peel. If you are interested in learning more about the procedure and possibly getting one of these skin peels done, make an appointment for a consultation with your dermatologist right away.

Medical experts and pharmaceutical companies have seen how lucrative the business of acne medication is nowadays. Everyone who is suffering from this dermatologic problem has probably tried two or three (or a whole lot more) kinds of body acne products, wishing that the next one will be the one to work perfectly for them.

Here are some of the very well known body acne products in the market nowadays as well as the various procedures which can possibly be the cure to this very irritating dermatologic problem.

Topical Medications and Other Pharmacological Options

These are some of the usual body acne products prescribed by dermatologists and used by most acne sufferers. Benzoyl Peroxide, topical antibiotics and all sorts of medication in acidic forms are under this category. The biggest benefit of these kinds of medications is that it is relatively cheap, very effective and easy to acquire. Its drawbacks are far and few in between. You just need to know what kind is most appropriate for your case and that may mean additional cost for visiting your dermatologist.

Body Acne Products Advertised on TV or the Internet

There are more than hundreds of these products which you can choose from. Proactiv, Acne Free in 3 Days and Murad Acne Complex are just three of those included in some medical experts’ top 30 list. The manufacturers will promise amazing results however there really is no way of you knowing for sure that these are very effective – unless you use them. One of the tips that you should take note of is to check if the product you plan to procure is FDA-approved.

Invasive and Non Invasive Surgical or Cosmetic Procedures

Nowadays, various surgical procedures are cropping up and are critiqued by medical experts as very good treatment methodologies for acne. Punch excision, microdermabrasion, chemical peels and laser therapies are only some of these amazing technological advancements that can rid you of this dermatological issue. The effectiveness of all these are at a high. However, these are all quite expensive. Other procedures are even more so with anesthetic fees and other medications that you need to buy. You will also need to ask your physician about the procedures and if one of those is the most appropriate one for you.

Medications which Target Hormonal Imbalances

Hormonal imbalance is said to be one of the reasons behind acne – especially if your condition is that which is very difficult to deal with. Although a dermatologist is needed, you may also ask an endocrinologist about what kind of hormone is lacking or is in surplus to cure body acne permanently.

Holistic and Alternative Remedies

A lot of treatment options can be categorized under this. Using fresh produce like lemons and garlic to treat your acne is getting very famous nowadays. Although this is a pretty cheap answer to your problems, it can only deal with simple cases. Old Chinese methods like Acupuncture and the Indian Ayurvedic medicines are also well known.

This is merely a guide for those who really find it difficult to decide on at least one of the right body acne products to use for their acne problem.

Now that you are armed with this information you will be able to make a better decision about the best products for you.

I have been struggling with acne for almost 4 years. I am a teenager, so I know that contributes, but I’m sick and tired of it. I’ve used a bunch of different kinds of home treatments and I never have good skin. It makes me feel absolutely horrible about myself. It isn’t all over my face, but small pimples on both my jawlines, chin, forehead, and nose. Occassionally I get cystic looking zigs on my chin and nose. I just want clearer skin. So what do you suggest? Should I see a dermatologist? What would they do? And what is the general cost? Thank you so much for reading this, I want a awesome junior year not feeling self concious about my skin.

Hi Ray. Thanks a lot for sharing all your knowledge to help those of us who suffer from acne. I have severe cystic acne for the past 15 years (face, neck, back, shoulder). I’ve read every articles and try to follow eating the right diet and taking the necessary supplements. After 3 months of following your advice, I have noticed that I got much lesser new acne. My question is: 1) Since I start eating the right diet, I am always hungry all the time. Eating vegetables and eating only meat does not make me full at all, because I used to eat carb so much ( lots of rice and bread ). Do you have any tips on how to keep yourself from being hungry all the time and still eating the right diet? 2) I notice that there are several diet that should be followed. In your opinion, which one should I follow: a) Low glycemic diet b) Alkaline diet c) Anti Inflammatory Diet 3) You recommend so many vitamin, oils, enzymes and supplements. I want to clear my acne, but at the same time, I don’t want to spend way too much money every month. Can you rank from the most important to the least important, so I can prioritize. 4) I know that fast food is really bad for you, but I don’t cook, so I always buy food outside everyday. Can you give some suggestions on which food at popular fast food restaurants that won’t cause breakouts? Which food at Subway, McDonald’s and Yoshinoya that you recommend the most? 5) Which meat ( red meat or white meat ) is healthier and the one you recommend? I heard that …

I’m a 16 year old male and I’m wondering if i should take Accutane or not. I have mild/moderate acne and have micro cystic bumps to the left/right side of my chin going up to my lips and 3-4 medium-sized pimples on the side of my face during a breakout. I’ve tried Pro-active and that only “managed” my acne. I’m currently on Minocycline(100mg twice daily) and Duac in the morning/ Differin at night. I absolutely hate acne and it can lower my self- confidence a lot. I am very grateful i have it mild, but I would really like to be clear. The treatment I’m on right now seems to be doing a pretty good job, but i still get breakouts. It seems like every weekend i get three more pimples before the next monday of school. I’m going into the derm. soon and I’m sure he’s going to suggest accutane.. because he mentioned it could be an option last time i saw him. I just don’t know what i should do, just out wait the acne throughout high school and wish it to go away? Or risk accutane?

I’m 23 years old, and I’ve been having moderate to severe acne since I was a young teen. I’ve been going to the dermatologist on and off for about 10 years now, since I was 13, and nothing has ever really been able to clear up my acne. Over the past 10 years, I’ve been prescribed antibiotics, birth control pills, Differin gel, Clinda-derm, Retin-A, and ProActiv (amongst other treatments I’m probably forgetting), but nothing has worked. Lately it seems like my acne is just getting progressively worse. My entire face (specifically my cheeks and chin) is currently covered with cystic pimples — it’s so severe that I feel embarrassed to even leave the house sometimes.

I made an appointment with my dermatologist for next week to see if I can get on Accutane. My question is: does it work? If you took it, did it work for you? Did you experience any really bad side effects while you were taking it?

Also, is it really hard to get prescribed Accutane? I’ve read that many doctors are reluctant to prescribe it. However, considering the fact that I’ve already tried most other common acne treatments, I don’t see what else my doctor could prescribe me.

I saw a Demo at the beginning of my treatment & have just been going to a regular doctor for monthly check up, blood work, etc…

I’ve been taking 50mg a day of the generic Claris & am 140lb. The only side effects really are the usual dry lips & I love that my hair isn’t as oily!

I washed and waxed my uncle’s truck this past weekend, and he gave me $35. I save the small weekly allowance that I get, and because I’m in need of some new skincare products, I wanted to head over to my local Walgreens to buy me a new cleanser, and possibly a few other products. Walgreens is also great because I’m only 16 and dig great deals!

I have pretty normal skin, but this past year I moved from a dry climate to a humid climate. Before my skin was pretty much perfect, and I’d break out once or twice every couple of months. Now, I always have little flesh-colored bumps around my chin, there are blotchy spots and pinkish scars, and I’ve been getting very painful, large cystic pimples. I’ve tried quite a few products, I’ve tried not using anything, and so far nothing works. All the cleansers I have tried do nothing to prevent the acne, so I’m really wanting to find a good cleanser.

Which cleanser should I purchase: ‘Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash Pink Grapefruit Facial Cleanser’ or ‘Aveeno Active Naturals Positively Radiant Cleanser’?
If you have any other suggestions, that would be great!

I was also going to purchase ‘Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Stress Control 3-in-1 Hydrating Acne Treatment’, as it has received excellent reviews. The ‘Queen Helene Mint Julep Masque’ has good reviews as well, and is pretty cheap.
Any comments about these products?

So, would a good acne fighting/preventing routine be using one of the above cleansers, toning with witch hazel, applying oil-free moisturizer, and apply the 3-in-1 acne treatment twice a day? And then to exfoliate 2-3 times a week with St. Ives Apricot Scrub (this does nothing for my acne, but it leaves my skin really smooth and refreshed) and use the Mint Julep mask once a week and as a spot treatment overnight?

I’m trying to keep my routine a little more consistent and gentle then it’s been lately, and I also want to get rid of these annoying, painful pimples without seeing a dermatologist!

Oh, and has anyone tried the mask sheets from The Face Shop? You can buy these from Walgreens now, and they look pretty interesting.
Any and all tips and suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!
I really don’t have the money to buy anything expensive. If I could I would, but there is no way I have enough cash to splurge on stuff like that, nor do my parents.
I’m kind of stuck at Walgreens/Walmart here =/
Right now, all I do is wash my face twice a day, and follow that up with an all natural witch hazel toner and an oil-free moisturizer. The cleanser is called PanOxyl, and it’s the only acne product I’ve been using because most spot treatments are too harsh and make my skin itchy/red.
I’m a vegetarian, so I eat well.
Maybe it’s just hormones. =[

Hi, I need some advice on which product to buy. I have mild acne, and it seems like no matter how many times a day and how often I was my face, there is always a few left over, and it drives me crazy lol. I’m 14, and I’m going into high school in September, and I want to give off a good first impression. (And possible score myself a girl lol!!!) Well anyway, I read that the ThermaClear device stings pretty bad, but in the long run it seems more cheaper and effective than the Zeno. Normally pain isn’t a problem with me, as I can take a lot of pain on my body. However, it’s my face that I’m worried about when it comes to pain, as I have eczema, so my skin is pretty sensitive. I don’t want to be in pain with the ThermaClear, but I want my pimples to be gone. Is it really that bad of a “zap”? And do you think that my sensitive skin would be better off with Zeno? Please help, thanks!
lol #1 twilightfan ever!!!!!, you be the judge if I’m cute or not (I personally feel ugly… answer my question and please, be TRUTHFUL, I’d rather be told I’m ugly than go on thinking I’m good-looking):

Jessabelle, thank you for your answer, I believe me I went to my dermatologist lol and the product he gave me irritated my skin and made it worse =(

I’ve been to the doctor (to make sure it’s not something else) and it’s just body acne. They gave me something – but it drys my skin out so bad I can’t use it. I use the Neutrogena body wash (and never have noticed any change) but I also have always used a moisturizer/treatment after I shower and again before I go to bed. Do you think that is what is making it never go away? Should I not be using anything on it – just cleaning in the shower?

I am 15, and this is my first year of high school. So far it has sucked acne has taken all of my confidence from me. I do not have little zits, I have cystic ones. They hurt and are huge, I now care about what others think, not always did I. I want to get back to actually looking people in the eyes, and pulling my hair up and not feeling like I need to put it back down to hide them.
If I take it how long will it take to see good results. I know it has to get worse at first, but if you have taken it how long untill you could see it helping ?

Thank you, and please tell me any additional things I might want to know.
I have tried all the derm has to give me. They told me this was the last option. I will be starting birth con soon, so no worrys about that.
