I suffered from severe cystic acne for around 2 years and over that time had been prescribed countless antibiotics to help combat the problem. After much failure my dermatologist prescribed me a 2 month course of Accutane, which thankfully got rid of about 90% of all my acne and completely stopped any more spots from appearing.

The 10% that remained were in the form of a few cysts around my jawline, a few slightly smaller cysts on my chest, and a few small pimples on the back of my shoulders. All of these spots appeared during the worst point of my acne suffering and despite not having had a single new pimple for over 4 months, these spots have stayed. I think that the oldest ones have been on me for just over 12 months now.

I’ve tried many things for my acne throughout the years and the only thing it responds to is to oral antibiotic treatments. Any creams really don’t work at preventing acne. It helps dry it out quicker but using antibiotics prevents it and I don’t get anymore. I wish I could just stay on the antibiotic but I know that isn’t possible. Do I have some kind of infection in my body? I hate this… what can I do when the only thing that works is antibiotics?
