Acne can range in severity from a relatively small number of whiteheads, to a proliferation of cysts and nodules. Certain types of acne, particularly the more severe types can cause pain to its sufferer. The treatment for cystic acne can sometime cause irritation or downright discomfort for acne sufferer. Cystic acne is categorized as a severe form of acne and it is not the usual mild acne that most people suffer. Refusing to take acne treatment or acne medication can lead to a more severe type of acne.

The causes of cystic acne are, like other types of the condition, associated with the over production of oil by glands in the skin. There remains no definitive cure for any of the acne types, and the ways in which available treatments work is not fully understood. Thinking of using regular topical treatment for your cystic acne problems? Forget about it. It is a known fact that this treatment is just a waste of your time and money.

When you have cystic acne, it’ll be especially upsetting and it doesn’t help that treating it is not a walk in the park, but it’ll be worth it. Cystic is known to be treatable using Accutane and Isotretinoin Side effect associated with both drugs are true but it’s proven that it is effective against cystic acne. Know that the use of some drug will sometime bring side effect. But curing yourself from cystic acne is by no means a small feat.

The drying effect of using accutane often resulted in chapped lips and dry eyes. When you are in treatment, it’s crucial to know these side effects upfront so that you are well prepare for it. You might want to ensure that you carry an effective lip balm with you at all times during treatment, and contact lens wearers might find it more comfortable to return to wearing glasses for the duration of treatment. Should you develop muscle ache as a result of using accutane, gentle exercise may help. Not many people know this but you may experience abnormal enzyme production when you are on accutane.

Accutane can also give rise to feelings of depression. Discuss your problems and any symptoms out of ordinary to with your doctor immediately. Report any changes in your mood or your general health to your doctor straightaway. Thinking of using accutane? Ensure that you do not plan to have a baby or you are not pregnant when starting the medication as accutane can severely affect your fetus. You do not want to become pregnant while on accutane. Ensure in all your capacity to prevent this.

When you are on accutane treatment, there is no doubt that the side effect will be present. However, all traces of it will be gone once medication is stopped. Result often speaks for themselves and for those patients that undergone the cystic acne accutane treatment it is worth the time and effort.

I will be starting my first treatment of Accutane in less than a month.
I am a little nervous about it, but I am fully dedicated to clearing up my painful cystic acne.
I have tried so many products over the years with no results.
I am so sick and tired of suffering!! My acne is ruining my life, physically and emotionally. I don’t even want to leave my house anymore unless I have pounds of makeup on. When I talk to anyone including friends or family members all i think about is my face and if they are looking at it.
I don’t want to live that way anymore, I have a whole life ahead of me and I don’t want acne to be my main stress in life as it is for me right now.

I am 18 years old going on 19 and have suffered for about 4 years.
My face isn’t as bad as a lot of people out there and I am fortunate for that, but it is very painful and I need a change.

If Accutane has worked for you please share your experience below.
Please include products that have worked for you and if you had any side effects.
I would really appreciate it, Thank You. I need all the motivation I can get!

I’m a 16 year old male and I’m wondering if i should take Accutane or not. I have mild/moderate acne and have micro cystic bumps to the left/right side of my chin going up to my lips and 3-4 medium-sized pimples on the side of my face during a breakout. I’ve tried Pro-active and that only “managed” my acne. I’m currently on Minocycline(100mg twice daily) and Duac in the morning/ Differin at night. I absolutely hate acne and it can lower my self- confidence a lot. I am very grateful i have it mild, but I would really like to be clear. The treatment I’m on right now seems to be doing a pretty good job, but i still get breakouts. It seems like every weekend i get three more pimples before the next monday of school. I’m going into the derm. soon and I’m sure he’s going to suggest accutane.. because he mentioned it could be an option last time i saw him. I just don’t know what i should do, just out wait the acne throughout high school and wish it to go away? Or risk accutane?

I’m 23 years old, and I’ve been having moderate to severe acne since I was a young teen. I’ve been going to the dermatologist on and off for about 10 years now, since I was 13, and nothing has ever really been able to clear up my acne. Over the past 10 years, I’ve been prescribed antibiotics, birth control pills, Differin gel, Clinda-derm, Retin-A, and ProActiv (amongst other treatments I’m probably forgetting), but nothing has worked. Lately it seems like my acne is just getting progressively worse. My entire face (specifically my cheeks and chin) is currently covered with cystic pimples — it’s so severe that I feel embarrassed to even leave the house sometimes.

I made an appointment with my dermatologist for next week to see if I can get on Accutane. My question is: does it work? If you took it, did it work for you? Did you experience any really bad side effects while you were taking it?

Also, is it really hard to get prescribed Accutane? I’ve read that many doctors are reluctant to prescribe it. However, considering the fact that I’ve already tried most other common acne treatments, I don’t see what else my doctor could prescribe me.

I’ve been on it for 3.5months and only have 2 weeks to go till Im done my prescription. Im still getting a couple deep cystic acne & and few more smaller ones

I saw a Demo at the beginning of my treatment & have just been going to a regular doctor for monthly check up, blood work, etc…

I’ve been taking 50mg a day of the generic Claris & am 140lb. The only side effects really are the usual dry lips & I love that my hair isn’t as oily!

The doctor figures my skin will continue to clear once I stop taking it.

Ok, so I would say my acne is moderate. It’s certainly not severe, and sometimes it even appears to be very mild. However there is pretty much always at least one zit on my face. Sometimes it’s just one that’s deep and protruding and others it’s several little bumps.

However my skin does not respond to any treatments well. I’ve tried epiduo, differin, benzaclin, acanya, ziana, many prescription washes, even oral antibiotic therapy and blue light.. Nothing. It does not respond. To top it off, my skin is ridiculously oily. I look greasy 24/7. I have been monitored by a dermatologist (one that no longer handles accutane patients) for quite some time and we have not made much progress. Sometimes I clear for a week and bam it’s back again. And nothing stops the oil!

This is why I want accutane. I think it’s time to find a dermatologist that will prescribe it for me. However I’m not sure if anyone will put me on it because my acne is really not cystic or nodular. It doesn’t appear to be terrible either, and I don’t (permanently) scar easy. I feel like there are almost microscopic little ice pick marks (no one else can really see them without getting close or a magnifying glass, but they’re there.) And without makeup, my face is full of red marks. I know PIH goes away, but I can’t stay clear long enough to even it out! I don’t want to worry about scarring or dealing with crappy skin forever! I cannot find relief with any prescription! And I don’t wanna have scars. Can I get someone to put me on accutane? Is it possible? I will pay whatever, do whatever, it doesn’t matter I’m just sick of this skin!!!!!

I’ve heard a lot of people talk about them for acne treatment, but I heard they can bring side effects. Did you use them and if so, would you recommend any of them? My acne is not very severe but I get occasional cystic pimples or breakouts.

Can any legal doctor prescribe them, or do I have to go to those major hospital/skin centres? Also, if Accutane or Proactiv didn’t work for you, what did and were the effects lasting?

Lastly, just a side question: Do birth control pills make you gain weight and do they work for acne?
Thanks!

For accutane users, what has your post-accutane experience been like? I am sure that it cures acne while you are on it, but I don’t want to go through the hassle of the treatment program if within 6 months it was like I was never on it. Also, any tips on dealing with it?

My dermatologist and I have been through a lot of treatments to cure up my acne. I do not have cystic acne, and her next step was to use Accutane to clear up my acne. As you know, the side affects for Accutane are not very pleasant and I have been reading everywhere that Accutane is to cure cystic acne, and severe acne. My acne is not severe, but moderate. I really would like to cure it up without having to go to Accutane, but I don’t see that possible at this point. Accutane is a last resort for me. What do you suggest for someone with moderate acne, but not cystic? I need a way to clear it up without that long list of side effects and monthly blood tests.

I had severe acne and completed 2 courses of accutane over a period of 5 years. Now ive been off my second round for about 10 months and the acne is slowly creeping back up on me. I want to stop it before it gets uncontrollable like it was before, and I dont think doctors can even GIVE more than 2 rounds of accutane.

I mean my acne wasnt as bad as acne cases can possibly get, but it WAS as stubborn as they get. So in other words dont suggest creams, antibiotics, other topicals… tried them all already.

Whats the effectiveness of laser treatment, and how long does it last??
Um i have very good personal hygiene, maybe some people need to work on their rudeness….

ALSO how much can this cost? And how long do the results last?

They hurt and are huge, I now care about what others think, not always did I. I want to get back to actually looking people in the eyes, and pulling my hair up and not feeling like I need to put it back down to hide them.
If I take it how long will it take to see good results. I know it has to get worse at first, but if you have taken it how long untill you could see it helping ?

Thank you, and please tell me any additional things I might want to know.
I have tried all the derm has to give me. They told me this was the last option. I will be starting birth con soon, so no worrys about that.

Accutane is the most popular cystic acne medication; however it doesn’t work foreveryone. I assume that before taking another course of Cystic Acne Accutane:

You’d make sure to reduce the number of prescription drugs you’re taking during the course.

If a woman, you’re not planning to become pregnant.

You’re aware that at least for some adolescents there’s been a suggested linkage between depression and Accutane.

You’re planning on living in a generally healthy manner, eating well, exercising, not smoking, and not drinking to excess. You should be trying to do that whether or not you’re taking Accutane. especially if you’re no longer a kid.

If you can say yes in response to all of the following statements and have been diligently following the doctor’s instructions I think you’re well with your rights to press the doctor for something more effective or to move on to a doctor who would be willing to give you a second course of Accutane or some other similar cystic acne treatment if that’s the only thing that will work. No, Accutane is not an ideal medication to cure cystic acne, but in my experience it does work like no other, at least for a time, and one has to look at the overall picture and consider how strongly the individual feels about his / her condition.Â

You also should get your health checked out in general; there’s probably no connection to your skin condition, but you never know. But don’t feel guilty about being frustrated and angry with your current doctor, if that’s how you feel. And anyone who thinks that acne is merely a superficial cosmetic condition obviously has never had a serious case.

What side effects did you have?

I’m 26 and I have been suffering from cystic acne for about 10 yrs. I’ve tried all the topical creams and anti-biotics for it, nothing has ever worked even remotely. About a year and a half ago, i finally decided to give Accutane a go. I took accutane for about 4 months, but i was not regular with it. I would miss days often. My acne did get much better, it’s a year and a half later and my cystic acne has returned with a vengance. Now, was it that accutane just didn’t work, or was the fact that i wasn’t very regular with the treatment the reason?
Also, i’m considering going back on accutane, as i didn’t suffer from any of the side effects the first time around. Is accutane my only option here?

I have cystic acne, and my doctor told me that I should definitely try Accutane. The only issue is that my insurance doesn’t cover it and it would cost over $1000 a month. I’ve been using the Murad acne process and that’s been working well for me, but that doesn’t work for the cystic acne under the skin, only the blemishes on the top layer. Are there any other medications or products that have worked on cystic acne that you know of? Thank you times ten in advance.
I’m already using a topical treatment called Murad. It’s basically Proactive x10 so that really won’t help me. That doesn’t take care of acne under the skin, only on top.
