Should I go on Accutane? Experiences? Thoughts?
I’m 23 years old, and I’ve been having moderate to severe acne since I was a young teen. I’ve been going to the dermatologist on and off for about 10 years now, since I was 13, and nothing has ever really been able to clear up my acne. Over the past 10 years, I’ve been prescribed antibiotics, birth control pills, Differin gel, Clinda-derm, Retin-A, and ProActiv (amongst other treatments I’m probably forgetting), but nothing has worked. Lately it seems like my acne is just getting progressively worse. My entire face (specifically my cheeks and chin) is currently covered with cystic pimples — it’s so severe that I feel embarrassed to even leave the house sometimes.
I made an appointment with my dermatologist for next week to see if I can get on Accutane. My question is: does it work? If you took it, did it work for you? Did you experience any really bad side effects while you were taking it?
Also, is it really hard to get prescribed Accutane? I’ve read that many doctors are reluctant to prescribe it. However, considering the fact that I’ve already tried most other common acne treatments, I don’t see what else my doctor could prescribe me.

I have bad acne as well, but I here Accutane is dangerous, it’s bad for your liver and unstable. My dad used it years ago when it first came out, and he’s fine, but my mom doesn’t want me to use it, so I just have to keep my acne under control with what I use now.
If you do want to use it, it shouldn’t be difficult to get prescribed, my dermatologist has suggested it before to me.
