How can I treat severe acne from without a prescription?
My husband gets severe cystic and nodular acne on his legs, I have suggested he goes to a dermatologist, but he does not want to. I know they have OTC creams and gels to use, but they don’t seem to be helping him and the acne hurts him. I have already had him switch from soap to an acne control body wash. Is there some thing else I can try? Maybe a homeopathic treatment? I really appreciate any help you can give me, thanks!
Thanks all! I’ll show this to my husband and see what he wants to do

Proactive

Its his problem because if its severe, prescription is the way to go. You don’t have to go the dermatologist, you can just go to the doctor. If he’s not willing then don’t bother. You can try all of these over the counter methods, home remedies but really prescription is the best way.
Yeah i would have to agree with the above poster, if the over the counter topical remedies have not helped, i really think a prescription medication is in order. There are prescription antibiotic creams and gels that can help if your hubby doesnt want to take tablets for it. I think a combination of a topical clindamycin gel and a course of doxycycline antibiotics would be the next logical step.
There really isnt any evidence for the use of homoeopathy for severe acne (or for many conditions). I know many people dont like taking medications, but you just have to weigh up the risk/benefit ratio.
Risks
Gel/Cream:
mild adverse reaction to topical antibiotic- infrequent
severe reaction to topical antibiotic- Very rare
Oral Antibiotic:
Adverse reaction to oral antibiotic such as sun sensitivity(common, but only occurs for the duration of course), gastric upset (common, but eased by having dose with meals). serious adverse reaction (very rare)
Benefits
Significant improvement or resolution of acne – reasonably likely
Just weigh up the options… i know what i would do, I’d take the meds.
mine were on my face,JUST SOMETHING LIKE COFFEE GRANULES can give you big spots, it’s a food chemical allergy, this might help you——– a lot of food ingredients(NOT fresh meat, veg, fish, cheese, potato’s,etc) are man made from chemicals, now if i gave you a teaspoon of chemical to drink, you probably wouldn’t be surprised with the new big pimple growing the next day, how do i know? i lived this nightmare of big pimples,as one was dying, ping i could feel the next one coming, running home from school or getting up in the morning to look in the mirror(juli, stop looking in the mirror they won’t go any quicker),making excuses not to go out and staying in to apply mud from mexico, slime from the bottom of the sea, face masks made from kangaroo poo,it looks a little bit better(who are you kidding)why do i only see one person in every million like me,because they aren’t allergic to anything,oh no i got another one, this will be my last one,it’s the end of my teenage years, this will be my last one i’m thirty and a half next week. i had 10 years of them, left mums house, bingo month later clear fresh complexion,if i went back to mums and ate, big spot again, mum said you’re allergic to something,6 months later we found that it was a food (chemical)ingredient added as a food flavouring, sauces, gravy, flavours put on breadcrumbs, drinks, curries, lots of things. no more bending over when a fit boy passes so my hair falls over my face. t should be easy to find out what you ate that your allergic to
e-mail me if you need advice, profile page read this web site is doesn’t mention bigspots but it’s on the right track

Take Minocycline. Minocycline is an antibiotic which kills bacteria. Minocycline should be taken with caution, however, as it has been show to damage the thyroid gland, liver, and hair. It makes skin sensitive and lowers the body’s resistance to pathogens. If you do choose to take minocyline, make sure to get bloodwork every six months at the doctor’s office to monitor your health.
Get good nutrition. These top five nutrients have been shown to have a very positive effect on your skin and in treating acne. These nutrients, zinc, vitamin A, vitamin E, selenium and chromium, can pack a powerful punch in your acne war.
Zinc – Zinc is the Acne stopper. It works in several ways to both treat acne and prevent it. It helps the body regulate certain hormones which prevents acne, but it also helps with wound healing, tissue regeneration and boosting the body’s immune system. Most people in the United States actually have a marginal zinc deficiency, but you can get zinc from many of your favorite foods, such as seeds, nuts, legumes and whole grains.
Vitamin A – Vitamin A is a fat soluble vitamin that helps you have beautiful, healthy hair and skin. You can find vitamin A from fruits and vegetables. Dark green vegetables and deep yellow vegetables as fruits give you a good dose of vitamin A by providing carotenes. Oatmeal is a good source of vitamin A, as well as cantaloupe, honeydew melon, broccoli, spinach and sweet potato. Liver contains a megadosis: watch out, vitamin A is stored in the body and you can actually get vitamin A poisoning.
Vitamin E – Vitamin E helps to normalize decreased levels of antioxidant enzymes. This is often prevalent in male acne patients, but vitamin E has proven beneficial to both male and female acne sufferers. Almonds, sunflower seeds, peanut butter, spinach, broccoli and mango are all great sources of vitamin E.Even a snack as simple as ¼ to ½ cups of raw nuts and seeds can help your skin become clearer and healthier.
Selenium – Selenium works much like vitamin E in that it also helps to normalize decreased levels of antioxidant enzymes. Selenium can be found in foods such as vegetables, meats and bread. Some nuts, such as Brazil nuts and walnuts are also rich in selenium. You can also supplement your diet with selenium, taking 100 to 200 micrograms per day. However, 3 ½ ounces of beef has 35 micrograms of selenium and 3 ounces of tuna has 63. Brazil nuts, though, are the winner with 544 micrograms of selenium per ounce.

The worst thing about acne is the scars and the marks it leaves behind. Some of the scars tend to disappear with time but some are so grave that it can be disfiguring which may make our heart sink.
The post acne marks is the hyper pigmented or red marks and is called as the post inflammatory marks. These marks take at least 6-12 months to completely disappear. When these marks last longer than a year then it turns into a scar. A number of things could be done to reduce the redness and to quicken its pace to disappear. There are also a number of home remedies available. Following are some of them.
Rub lemon juice on the scar/marks. This will lighten the colour. Apply the juice and leave it on for about 10 minutes. Wash off your face and then apply a sun block lotion.
2) Make a paste of sandalwood powder, black gram powder and rose water. Apply it on the area and I possible leave it overnight. Wash it with cold water the next morning. If you find that it makes you skin too dry then add some milk into it.
If these tips did not work for you, do not lose heart you can still try some other tips. Good Luck!
I would suggest accutane to your husband. Accutane is absolute miracle drug! I am sure you can use accutane for severe cystic and nodular acne also. I suffered from cystic acne for the latter half of my life and had wasted my money on practically everything – antibiotics, Differin, Retin-A, Clindamycin, ProActiv, special cleansers, and probably other stuff I can’t remember. Nothing worked. I just finished my Accutane treatment and the results are unbelievable. My skin isn’t disgusting and oily anymore, and I cannot even remember the last time I had one zit. I finally don’t have to put on makeup before leaving the house, and I’m no longer embarrassed to wear a tank top. And I was getting accutane online with no prescription, my derm would not prescribe it to me. But It would be better if you ask your doctor about getting accutane first.
P.S. I’ve been purchasing accutane through http://www.pompharmacy.com
