HELP! Facial cleansing routine for oily, acne-prone skin!?
I’m looking to switch my facial care routine up. I have very oily, hormonal/cystic acne-prone skin. I was using the ProActiv system, and it works okay for me, but 1) it’s WAY too expensive, and 2) I’m wondering if there is anything out there that is better. I noticed that I react much better to salicylic acid treatments more than benzoyl peroxide treatments.
Are there any drugstore brands anyone with similar skin can recommend? I know i’ll have to try them out for myself, but I was wondering if anyone had more insight to this…
I’m looking for a daily cleanser, toner, moisturizer, and possibly spot treatment.

Personally Proactiv saved my life but here are some ideas:
Stick with the basics: The experts suggest cleansing your face two or three times daily with good old soap and water. Pack a premoistened cleansing pad if you won’t be around a water basin throughout the day.
Follow the recommendations of dermatologists and shower or bathe in tepid rather than steaming-hot water. Hot water can strip your skin of needed moisture, while cold water can shock your skin.
Use only noncomedogenic moisturizers and sunscreen products’this means they’re oil-free and won’t clog pores.
I’ll let you know what I have tried that has worked
Neutrogena for oily skin is one of the best drugstore beauty brands, hands-down, and you can’t go wrong with this simple acne wash for acne-stricken skin.
Clinique Wash-Away Gel Cleanser
Gel cleansers work well for oily skin because they absorb excess oils. This classic cleanser can be a bit drying, so test the product before you buy.
Cetaphil, celebs swear by it!
Now for toners: I use witch hazel alcohol free toner it leaves my skin very good nice it calms my skin and control oil that clog pores it makes my skin nice clear this toner helps to dry out pimples and control oiliness . But they are all pretty much the same.
Mousturiser:
like Cetaphil too, but now I buy the generic cetaphil copycat brands from CVS, Publix, Target etc since they work just as well and cost less. All directed towards acne prone skin eg clearasil, clean and clear are great too.
This site gives a run down on drug store brands:

Oh and to deal with pimples, I use a clay mud mask works overnight and is cheap! For the rednees I use visine eyedrops and hold an ice cube wrapped in a plastic bag for 1 minute to them, its a miracle I tell you! Try it out and good luck!
Dont forgot to look at what you eat too as that could be causing your oily skin. Flaxseed oil is great for improving skin and calcium.
If proactiv works for u.. u realli hav to stick wit it.
i like neutrogena oil free acne wash… its not too expensive, but it contains salicylic acid…if not.. try cetaphil face wash.. the one for oily skin. i usually stick with neutrogena, so for your toner, you can just pick any toner really as long as it doesnt contain alcohol, and i use the neutrogena oil free moisture for combination skin. its quite light – feels like you put on nothing, and fairly cheap too. for a spot treatment, i use benzac ac .. not sure if it’s available in US but its a BP cream, so i guess any BP cream with either 2.5% or 5.% strength will do. Use make up less often as well since some products may clog your pores
Hope this helps.
I’ve been in that situation and there is really nothing you can do about it. There are things you can do to try to reduce the blemishes and get rid of acne/pimples temporarily but you will always be finding yourself cleaning your face or your body depending on where it’s at.
I mean of course your acne should go away eventually but for some this is the case their whole life.
I’m 29 years old and have been suffering from these little pests since I was a teenager. I tried all sorts of face washes from the local grocery store and what not, but nothing seemed to work. If anything it would just make my skin dry and itchy.
Literally the best acne face wash I’ve ever used has been this stuff called clearpores. It has got rid of the acne to quickest and has been a success ever since I got it. It’s unique cause of it’s herbal supplement you take a long with it that helps your skin from the inside out. I saved money on it at skincleansingsystem dot com at the time which was helpful.
You should really look into this stuff and if you can to assure the best results, get the 3 month supply because if it doesn’t work it will still save you butt on the return policy.
Well good luck and best wishes.
Salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide can kill bacteria and usually are added to pimple cleansers to prevent bacteria infection on skin pores. These medicine have no ability to clean oil. Most cleansers use surfactants to clean oil. It works very well on skin surface. But it can not go inside pores and the pores could still be clogged with oil. That means the pimple could be back. The best cleanser which can cleans skin pores, as we know, is Chlorella Gel Cleanser. It works in a different way. It uses edible green algae to absorb and to dissolve oil out of skin pores. Chlorella Gel Cleanser works more effectively than chemical surfactant. It can clean corneous cells, sebum, sweat, dust. Most students can get ride of pimples with Chlorella Gel Cleanser in three days. Unfortunately, it sells at same price as ProActive in U.S.. The reason is not the production cost, and it is its location. Chlorella Gel Cleanser is produced in Taiwan. International transportation and tax double its price in U.S.. Lijun Plant Resource Institute is seeking local partners to help he distribute products to users in U.S. Anyone who loves his products can apply to be the local distributors. Maybe next year you can buy it at reasonable price.
I had the similar question this past year. In doing my occurrence, the very best solutions are patient and confident. Face it bravely, and you will be alright at long last.
